SGS today announces the launch of SGS Biosafety Laboratory as the new market-facing name for its specialist biosafety facility in Glasgow, strengthening the visibility of a key platform within SGS’s global network for biologics, vaccine and advanced therapy testing.

The new name makes the laboratory’s capabilities clearer to clients and reflects the breadth of scientific expertise delivered. SGS Biosafety Laboratory brings together high-value services across biosafety testing, viral safety, identity testing, genetic stability assessment, nucleic acid sequencing, cell and virus characterization, molecular biology and advanced biologics characterization.
From development through to clinical and commercial release, the laboratory supports biopharmaceutical, vaccine and advanced therapy companies worldwide. Its services help clients demonstrate product safety, meet regulatory expectations and reduce the risk of delays across development, manufacturing and release programs.
Continued investment in this specialist facility supports growing global demand from biopharmaceutical clients, with expanded capabilities in molecular biology, virology, transmission electron microscopy, bioanalysis, sequencing and genetic stability.
There is no interruption to client service as part of the name change. Clients will continue to work with the same scientific teams, quality systems, project contacts and operational processes.
Géraldine Picaud, CEO of SGS, commented on the importance of making SGS’s global biopharmaceutical testing capabilities clearer and easier to access for clients:
“Biologics, vaccines and advanced therapies are among the most complex and fastest-growing areas of healthcare, and clients need partners that can help them move with both speed and confidence. SGS Biosafety Laboratory strengthens the visibility of a high-value capability within our global network, bringing together biosafety, identity and genetic stability testing, and advanced characterization services. For our clients, this means clearer access to deep technical expertise, faster turnaround times and dependable support from development through to release.”
Dr. Archie Lovatt, Scientific Operations Director, SGS Biosafety Laboratory, highlighted the breadth of services delivered:
“Our clients are managing increasingly complex biologics, vaccine and advanced therapy programs, where safety, identity and genetic consistency must be demonstrated with confidence. SGS Biosafety Laboratory brings together validated methods, experienced scientific teams and responsive project support across biosafety and viral safety testing, identity and genetic stability testing, nucleic acid sequencing, cell and virus characterization and advanced molecular services. The new name reflects the depth of expertise behind these services and makes it easier for clients to understand how SGS can help reduce technical risk and keep critical programs moving.”
