SG 022/26
Moldova authorizes three standards for nickel migration.
In January 2026, Moldova’s Ministry of Environment (Ministerul Mediului din Moldova) issued Order No. 6/2026 (the Order, versions in Romanian or Russian in Monitorul Oficial No. 55-58 (art. 55) or on the Ministry of Justice website), approving the list of Moldovan standards that adopt harmonized European standards for presumption of conformity with nickel release requirements. This list of standards effectively transposes European Communication C/2023/1604 into Moldova’s national legislation, supporting compliance with nickel restrictions under entry 27 to Annex XVII of Regulation (EC) No. 1907/2006 on the Registration, Evaluation, Authorization and Restriction of Chemicals (entry 27 to Annex XVII of REACH, SafeGuardS 02/24 and references therein).
Highlights of the list of standards for nickel in the Order are summarized in Table 1.
| Moldovan Standard | European Standard | Superseded standard |
| SM EN 1811:2023 Reference test method for the release of nickel from all post assemblies that are inserted into pierced parts of the human body and articles intended to come into direct and prolonged contact with the skin | EN 1811:2023 | EN 1811:2011+A1:2015 |
| SM EN 12472:2021 Method for the simulation of accelerated wear and corrosion for the detection of nickel release from coated items | EN 12472:2020 | EN 12472:2005+A1:2009 |
| SM EN 16128:2017 Ophthalmic optics – reference method for the testing of spectacle frames and sunglasses for nickel release | EN 16128:2015 | EN 16128:2011 |

Additionally, the Order transposes European Commission Implementing Decision (EU) 2020/659 into Moldova’s regulatory framework by harmonizing SM EN IEC 63000:2019 (EN IEC 63000:2018) ‘Technical documentation for the assessment of electrical and electronic products in relation to the restriction of hazardous substances’, to support Moldova RoHS requirements.
