The Utah Department of Agriculture and Food (UDAF) removes mandated online digital labeling requirements for bedding, upholstered furniture and quilted clothing.
On April 9, 2025, Utah revised the ‘Bedding, Upholstered Furniture, and Quilted Clothing Rule’ (R70-101). Online retailers are no longer required to provide digital law labels or digital textile labels on product webpages for bedding, upholstered furniture and quilted clothing. This proposed change in the rule removes any reference to online sales, including previous definitions added to clarify information needed for those sales. Prior to this revision, the digital label requirements were scheduled to take effect on May 15, 2025. However, the March 1, 2025, issue of the Utah State Bulletin included a substantive change, proposing the removal of all references to digital law and textile label from the Rule. With the final revision now in effect, manufacturers and sellers are no longer obligated to display digital labels for bedding, upholstered furniture or quilted clothing sold online.
While Utah has removed the requirement for digital law labels and textile labels on product webpages, the state’s core regulatory requirements under Rule R70-101 remain intact for manufacturers, importers and retailers:
The updates to Rule R70-101 simplify compliance for e-commerce businesses while maintaining high standards for product safety and hygiene. Businesses are still expected to provide high-quality products and uphold consumer confidence in the marketplace.
