Role of regulators

Ensuring the safety and quality of these products is a collaborative effort led by two key organizations:

Saudi Standards, Metrology and Quality Organization (SASO)
Communications, Space & Technology Commission (CST)

SASO’s ‘Technical Regulation for Communications and Information Technology Devices’ defines the required standards, while CST oversees the broader communication and IT sector, including licensing and compliance with technical specifications.

Role of conformity assessment bodies

A critical component of this regulatory framework is the expertise of conformity assessment bodies. As an accredited organization, we play a pivotal role in evaluating products against SASO’s technical regulations, conducting necessary testing and issuing certificates of conformity. We ensure imported devices meet strict safety and performance benchmarks, with our independent assessments providing assurance to both regulatory authorities and consumers, protecting them from potential hazards and substandard products.

By adhering to stringent regulations, conducting thorough assessments and enforcing compliance, we ensure consumers can confidently adopt the latest technological advancements without compromising safety or performance. Updated guidelines for importers

To streamline processes and reinforce compliance, the CST and SASO have introduced updated guidelines for the ‘Technical Regulation for Communications and Information Technology Devices’, including:

SABER platform implementation: All regulatory processes related to this regulation will be conducted exclusively through the SABER platform, following the standard workflow

Required documentation: A Declaration of Conformity, Conformity for Device Approval and three test reports (safety, radio and electromagnetic compatibility EMC) must be provided by the manufacturer alongside the technical file
Test report validity: Test reports will remain valid for three years

Through these efforts, the SASO and CST will continue to uphold the highest quality and safety standards, ensuring that consumers in Saudi Arabia benefit from reliable and compliant communication and IT devices.
