SafeGuardSToys and Juvenile ProductsApril 06, 2022

Georgia has made several revisions to its technical regulation on toy safety. The latest requirements became effective on March 4, 2022.

 SG 04722 Assorted Toys

Since the publication of Resolution No. 47/2020  on ‘Approval of the Technical Regulation on Toy Safety’, this Technical Regulation has been revised on several occasions to, among other things, expand the scope of toys to include toy books as well as requirements for toy importers to submit an ‘Advance notice of toy import’ in electronic form to the Authorities for toy categories with specified commodity codes (HS Codes) under Annexes VII and VIIl (Resolution Nos. 735/2020, 296/2021 and 438/2021, SafeGuardS 135/21).

In March 2022, Georgia issued Resolution No. 108/2022 to amend the Technical Regulation. It:

  • Adds several sub-categories of toys to Annex VII (List of Toys No. 1)
  • Expands the number of toy categories from eight to nine in Annex VIII (List of Toys No. 2) by adding toy dolls (see Table 1, item 7, below)
  • Inserts new language for limited exemptions for an ‘Advance notice of toy import’

Highlights of the revised list of toy categories under Annex VIII to the Technical Regulation are summarized in Table 1.
