SGS Benelux Cycles to Fight Cancer

The Tour was part of the Daniel 3daagse, a sporting event with a social conscience that includes running, cycling and swimming. A total of EUR 520,825 was raised at this event in 2019. This was donated to the ”Maak kanker kansloos” campaign, which supports research into immunotherapy to fight cancer at Erasmus MC hospital.

Ilse Rabau, of SGS Benelux’s internal communications team, was involved with the Tour. She commented, "We offer our Benelux colleagues group participation in various sports events in Belgium and the Netherlands at the company’s expense, such as running, soccer, cycling or walking. This means we take care of participation fees and offer our participants SGS sportswear, such as a running shirt or cycling outfit. Twice a year, our annual sports calendar also includes a major cycling event. In the fall, this is often one of the Flemish cycling classics, an event that is organized entirely by our own employees. In the spring, we join a public cycling event through which we can contribute to a good cause – which, in 2019, resulted in the participation of more than 40 SGS colleagues in the Tour de Rotterdam”.

SGS recognizes the ability of sports to bring employees together. As Ilse says, “We have branches from Groningen to Gembloux, no fewer than fifty in total. Colleagues from different offices, services and departments come together through sports. Contacts can be made, and camaraderie strengthened, beyond the workplace.”
