SG 082/26

Minnesota sets the manufacturing date requirement for reporting products with intentionally added per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS).

In 2023, Minnesota approved measures to regulate intentionally added PFAS in products (Amara’s Law). This law:

  • Prohibits PFAS in 11 product categories beginning January 2025
  • Required a PFAS disclosure program for products before January 1, 2026 (delayed to September 15, 2026)
  • Establishes an eventual ban on the use of these chemicals in products starting 2032 (SafeGuardS 101/25 and 61/26)

On May 26, 2026, the governor of Minnesota signed SF 4612 (Chapter 127) into law to amend Amara’s Law on products containing intentionally added PFAS.

What does this regulation require?

Section 4 to Article 14 of Chapter 127 specifies that the PFAS reporting requirements apply only to products manufactured after July 1, 2023. (2025 Minnesota Statutes, Section 116.943)

Who is impacted?

This amendment affects stakeholders across the consumer product supply chain, including manufacturers, importers and distributors operating in Minnesota.

When does it apply?

This amendment will become effective on the day following final enactment.
