US CPSC Issues Final Rule to Codify the Ban on Inclined Sleepers for Infants

The US CPSC has published a final rule to codify the ban on inclined sleepers for infants in accordance with the Safe Sleep for Babies Act of 2021.

On August 16, 2023, pursuant to the Safe Sleep for Babies Act of 2021 signed by US President Joe Biden on May 16, 2022, the US Consumer Products Safety Commission (CPSC) has published final rule 16 CFR 1310 to reflect the statutory ban on inclined sleepers for infants which took effect on November 12, 2022.

Regardless of the date of manufacture, inclined sleepers for infants shall be considered a banned hazardous product under section 8 of the Consumer Product Safety Act. Inclined sleeper for infants means “a product with an inclined sleep surface greater than ten degrees (>10º) that is intended, marketed or designed to provide sleeping accommodation for an infant up to 1 year old.”
