Quebec province repeals Act Respecting Stuffing and Upholstered and Stuffed Articles effective immediately

On December 9, 2021, the National Assembly of Quebec passes Bill 103 (An Act to amend various legislative provisions mainly for the purpose of reducing red tape) which includes repealing the Act Respecting Stuffing and Upholstered and Stuffed Articles (Chapter M-5).

Effective immediately, upholstered and stuffed articles manufactured and sold in Quebec province are no longer required to have a permit and label in order to sell upholstered and stuffed articles in the province. The Ministry of Economy and Innovation will provide more details on their website in the upcoming weeks.

Quebec was the last province in Canada that required registration and labelling of upholstered and stuffed articles. Ontario and Manitoba repealed their respective regulations in 2019 and 2020.
