Launching the Carbon Footprint Radar

June 19, 2026

Sami and SGS have launched the Carbon Footprint Radar – the first global benchmark on what companies are actually doing on carbon.

This new annual study, also backed by EDF, HEC Paris and We Are Europe, is open to all companies until July 26, 2026.

Much is said about ecological transition and carbon impact. But do we actually know what companies are doing in practice? Not what they announce in their reports – what they actually do: how many measure their emissions, with what level of precision, using which tools, at what cost, and where they get stuck.

The honest answer: we don't. The existing data is fragmented, often limited to large listed companies, and makes it impossible to compare practices across countries or sectors.

This is the gap that Sami and SGS have decided to fill by launching the Carbon Footprint Radar – a global, annual survey conducted with HEC Paris as academic partner, with the valued support of EDF and the European association We Are Europe.

What the study will produce

The Carbon Footprint Radar is not yet another study on corporate climate commitments. It is a direct survey of more than 2,000 companies across more than 10 countries, looking at what they actually do: adoption of carbon accounting, scopes covered and therefore measurement precision, methodologies used, budget allocated, level of team autonomy, emission reduction targets and transition plans.

The survey also covers – for the first time at this scale – product carbon footprinting, which will shed light on how companies are working to reduce the direct impact of the products and services they sell.

Results will be represented by country, sector and company size. The aim is to identify what truly differentiates those moving forward from those standing still, to enable every organization to benchmark itself against its peers, and to establish a clear picture of where companies stand globally on measuring and reducing their carbon footprint.

And because a single snapshot is never enough, the study will be repeated every year to track how things evolve over time, country by country.

Tanguy Robert, co-CEO of Sami, said: "To support companies in their decarbonization journey, we first need to understand where they actually stand. Not their declarations – their practices. That is what the Carbon Footprint Radar will measure, year after year, at a scale that simply does not exist yet.”

Santa Marku, Global Head of Marketing at SGS, added: “This study is 100% aligned with our IMPACT NOW for sustainability strategy. You can only improve what you measure, and the Carbon Footprint Radar finally gives companies a clear, shared view of where they stand and take action.”

The survey is open until July 26, 2026.

Results will be published at Produrable in Paris on September 30, 2026, and at the Carbon Accounting Conference in London in early October 2026.
