SGS Completes Expansion of Bioanalytical Testing Laboratory in France

September 30, 2021

We are excited to announce that our bioanalytical testing laboratory in Poitiers, France has completed its expansion, with the addition of a new 800-m2 building.

After more than two years of hard work and anticipation, we are pleased to introduce this brand-new facility in Poitiers, France, which will help us meet the growing demand for bioanalytical testing services to support drug development of small molecules, peptides, biotherapeutics, and cell and gene therapies.

Adding to the original 3,100-m2 refurbished facility, the 800-m2 building houses new office space – promising continued recruitment of qualified staff – and new chromatography and immunoassay laboratories to increase production capacity.

The GLP/GCP compliant laboratory now offers additional capacities such as mass spectrometry, immunoanalysis and cell-based bioassays, which complete the already-existing and wide portfolio of solutions. The refurbishment and expansion of the site will allow our team to increase the capacities of our laboratory considerably.

Walid Elbast, General Manager in France, said: "The expansion comes at an exciting time. It allows us to meet increased demand in the area and shorten processes for our pharmaceutical clients. For me, this is a testimony to the outstanding teamwork of everyone involved and SGS's continued investment in supporting innovation in the life sciences sector."

We invested in state-of-the-art equipment for the laboratory expansion, including:

  • Mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS)
  • UPLC technology
  • Immunoassay
  • Automated sample preparation using robotics or turbulent flow technology
  • Large sample storage combined with bar code systems for sample storage of up to 800,000 samples

Mark Rogers, Global Scientific Director, highlighted the crucial role the new laboratory will play in serving global markets: "The expansion of the laboratory will strengthen our network of bioanalytical facilities around the world, and help us deliver high-quality testing and faster turnaround times to our clients."

As part of the continuous improvement of our quality system, the laboratory has also introduced new digital tools such as CRM/CPQ for contracting and monitoring, Laboratory Work Flow, as well as upgrades to the site's quality management system with the implementation of TrackWise and sample automation capabilities.

SGS scientists deliver multifaceted, customer-centric programs at local and international levels — supporting the delivery of high-quality, compliant biopharmaceutical and pharmaceutical drugs and medical devices. With a global network of 22 laboratories, we provide a diverse range of trusted analytical testing and clinical research solutions to help you navigate your journey to market and ensure patient safety.
