SGS Supports Victims of Taal Volcano Eruption

January 31, 2020

Taal is one of the most active and dangerous volcanoes in the Philippines. Its eruption began on January 12. Since then, more than 376,000 people have been affected. The eruption has also caused mass fish deaths, destroyed coffee and pineapple plantations, and resulted in farm damage estimated at $63 million, according to Bloomberg.

SGS in the Philippines is organizing a series of relief operations to provide help to the affected families. Spearheaded by local SGS teams, representatives have initially provided free meals, distributed hygiene kits and groceries, and participated in repacking operations held by local government units and other volunteering sites. SGS is also organizing a larger relief operation that aims to help 300-500 families.

An SGS committee has run a fundraising campaign that will enable each employee to voluntarily pledge an amount to purchase the relief goods. Volunteers have also been requested to repack and distribute the items.
