State of Minnesota, USA, Bans PFAS in Food Packages

The state of Minnesota has implemented measures to regulate PFAS in food packaging. This prohibition will become effective on January 1, 2024.

State of Maine Enacted Law Requiring Disclosure of PFAS in Products

On July 15, 2021, LD 1503 became law in the US state of Maine. The new law requires manufacturers to notify the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) about products with intentionally added PFAS, and prohibits the sale of carpeting and fabric treatments containing PFAS beginning January 2023. The law also gives the DEP rulemaking authority to ban other products made with PFAS.

U.S. CPSC issues final rule to amend the Federal Standard for the Flammability of Mattresses and Mattress Pads (16 CFR Part 1632) with revised Standard Reference Material cigarette, SRM 1196a.

Health Canada Publishes Notice on the Use of Flame Retardants in Certain Consumer Products

Health Canada has issued a notice to stakeholders concerning compliance with flammability performance requirements for certain consumer products under the CCPSA. It aims to eliminate the use of flame retardant chemicals and encourage the use of safe, non-chemical alternatives.
