Demands or regulations from the government (such as: Law No. 1 of 1970 &; Law No. 13 of 2003 ps. 86-87) namely that work is entitled to safety guarantees in doing work and every company is required to implement SMK3 which is integrated with the Company's Management System.
By complying with applicable laws and regulations, the company will be more orderly, to protect workers and secure company assets from the risk of accidents and this can improve the good image of the company itself.
Benefits of implementing SMK3 for companies based on Government Regulation number 50 of 2012:
SMK3 is used to assess and measure the performance of K3 implementation in the organization. By comparing an organization's K3 achievement with specific requirements, the organization can find out the level of K3 achievement. One of these measurements was carried out through a SMK3 audit, comparing it with the number of accidents or other hijackers.
By applying K3 to workers, the number of accidents can be reduced or eliminated altogether, this will also benefit the company, because workers who feel safe from the threat of work accidents and occupational diseases will work more energetically and productively. SMK3 can be used as a guideline or reference in developing SMK3. Some forms of SMK3 used as a reference include ILO OHSMS Guidelines, API HSE MS Guidelines, Oil and Gas Producer Forum (OGP) HSEMS Guidelines, ISRS from DNV, and others.
SMK3 is given by a certification body that has been accredited by an accreditation body and is used to certify the implementation of K3 management in the organization.
SMK3 is used as a basis for awarding K3 awards for K3 performance achievements, K3 awards are given both by government agencies and other independent institutions. such as: Sword of Honour from the British Safety Council, Five Star Safety Rating System from DNV or National Safety Council Award, and SMK3 from the Ministry of Manpower or Disnaker. The K3 award is given for the achievement of K3 performance in accordance with the benchmarks of each with a certain period.
The application of SMK3 will be able to guarantee a safe, orderly and clean process so as to improve quality and reduce defective products.
By implementing SMK3, the occupational health and safety management system will be well organized and effective because in SMK3 it is required to have documented procedures, so that all activities and activities carried out will be organized, directed, in an orderly corridor and carried out consistently.
According to Gallagher (2001), the K3 Management System is a combination of planning and review, management arrangements of an organization, consulting arrangements, and specific program elements that work together in an integrated manner to improve occupational safety and health performance. The objectives of SMK3 can be grouped into 6 things, including hazard elimination, building system infrastructure, risk management, compliance with regulations, cultural change, and response to K3 issues. Thus, the application of SMK3 is very important in a company, so that the goals mentioned above can be achieved by an organization.
