SGS Signs Cooperation Agreement with BPOM to form Indonesian Cosmetic Laboratory Network (JLKI)

January 31, 2023

SGS Indonesia has joined the National Agency of Drug and Food Control (BPOM), the Ministry of Trade, the Ministry of Industry, the National Standardization Agency (BSN) and several representatives from other private laboratories in signing a cooperation agreement regarding the Indonesian Cosmetic Laboratory Network (Jejaring Laboratorium Kosmetik Indonesia – JLKI) in Semarang, on January 19, 2023.

JLKI enables cosmetics laboratories to jointly carry out the supervision of circulating cosmetic products and will harmonize the capabilities of Indonesia’s cosmetics testing laboratories, in recognition of the fact that community protection is a shared responsibility. It also provides a forum for cosmetics testing laboratories to exchange information.

The agreement is an important step in BPOM’s efforts to optimize its full spectrum supervision of cosmetic products circulating in Indonesia.

Aries Dwi Nugroho, Health & Nutrition Country Business Manager, SGS Indonesia, Penny K Lukito, Head of BPOM and Rita Mahyona, BPOM’s Chief Secretary, were present at the signing.

"Through JLKI, SGS Indonesia are pleased to be able to assist the government and JLKI’s stakeholders in the alignment of cosmetics laboratory testing capability to ensure cosmetic products in the market are healthy and safe, because this is the main thing in our business,” said Aries Dwi Nugroho.

Penny K Lukito commented, "Through the network and involvement of external laboratories, both ministries/institutions and private laboratories can synergize in increasing public protection from cosmetic products that pose a risk to health".
