Active mattresses are a Class IIa medical device under the UK Medical Device Regulation (MDR). To comply with the requirements of the MDR and demonstrate the mattress’s quality and legality, Squirrel Medical sought ISO 13485 (medical devices quality management systems) certification from SGS.
After achieving certification, Squirrel Medical has seen a surge in interest in the mattress from both NHS procurement teams and private investors. ISO 13485 certification has also future-proofed the company’s products beyond the Medical Device Directive (MDD) 2028 deadline.
