SGS is Accredited for UNI EN ISO 14067 Greenhouse Gases – Carbon Footprint of Products

May 05, 2020

SGS has been accredited by Accredia, Italy’s national accreditation body, to deliver services in relation to the UNI EN ISO 14067 standard for Greenhouse Gases (GHG) – Carbon Footprint of Products (CFP) – Requirements & Guidelines for Quantification.

Accreditation means SGS can now audit and certify the carbon footprint of an organization’s services and products, as calculated using a model (developed in accordance with ISO 14040 and ISO 14044) that estimates their impact in terms of GHG emissions and sinks across their live cycle.

CFP allows organizations to:

  • Identify the most significant sources of emission for any process/product
  • Identify areas for intervention – in terms of emission reduction
  • Increase visibility and consequently increase competitiveness
  • Reply to client requests

About CFP & ISO 14067:2018

ISO 14067:2018 is the reference standard for CFP; it defines the principles, requirements and guidelines for quantifying a product’s carbon footprint. The standard requires an organization to produce a CFP study report based on an analysis of a product’s life cycle through the life cycle assessment methodologies of ISO 14040 and ISO 14044.

External communication related to carbon footprints is regulated by ISO 14026 – Environmental labels and declarations – principles, requirements and guidelines for communication of footprint information.

SGS Remote Auditing Solutions

Despite the challenge of social distancing and lockdowns prompted by the COVID-19 pandemic, ISO 14067 audits can continue thanks to SGS’s Remote Auditing Solutions. Whilst the company continues to offer on-site audits wherever possible, remote auditing solutions ensure that industries unable to facilitate on-site visits can continue to meet government regulations and industry standards.
