UK Proposes Updates to Toy Safety Standards for Great Britain

United Kingdom (UK) proposes updates to designated toy safety standards that provide presumption of conformity in Great Britain.

On September 23, 2026, the UK’s Department for Business, Innovation, Science and Trade (BIST) issued Notice of Proposal to Publish 0143/26 of September 23, 2026 (the ‘Proposal’) to update the list of designated toy safety standards for presumption of conformity with the Toys (Safety) Regulations 2011 (UK S.I. 2011/1881).

What are the proposed changes and when would they apply?

Key proposed changes to the list of standards in Part 2 of Annex I to Notice of Publication 0131/26 of February 13, 2026 (NoP 0131/26, SafeGuardS 35/26) include:

  • Replacing EN 71-4:2020 with EN 71-4:2020+A1:2025 for experimental sets for chemistry and related activities
  • Introducing EN 71-15:2025 and EN 71-16:2025 as new entries 12 and 13, respectively (see Table 1)
