Our new ISO/IEC 17025 accredited lab increases our food safety testing capabilities in South Africa.
We are delighted to announce that we have opened a new ISO/IEC 17025 accredited microbiological testing laboratory in South Africa. The lab, is located in Centurion, a suburb of Pretoria.
This increases our food safety testing capabilities in South Africa, complementing the services provided by SGS’s existing agriculture and food laboratory (AFL) in Maitland, Cape Town.
Expanding our microbiological testing reach
We were keen to expand our national food safety testing footprint as well as serve nearby countries in southern Africa. We therefore strategically positioned our new lab in Centurion, a suburb of Pretoria in the Province of Gauteng—the economic hub of northern South Africa.
The new laboratory opened in late 2022, and started offering ISO/IEC 17025 accredited testing services for food, animal feed, water and facility hygiene in March 2023. It currently boasts six permanent members of staff and five support staff, supported by the SGS management team based in the Maitland, Cape Town laboratory.
This is the first phase of a three-year growth plan that we have envisioned for our Centurion-based laboratory with continuous improvements planned to improve turnaround times.
