Electrostatic discharge (ESD) facility certification from SGS – protect your products from the adverse effects of ESD.

ESD can cause many problems for organizations in several industries, particularly the electronics industry. It can cause damage to electronic components and adversely affect product quality and reliability.

You can protect your products from the adverse effects of ESD by complying with applicable industry standards, including ANSI/ESD S20.20 and IEC 61340-5-1. ESD facility certification from SGS ensures that your facility meets the requirements of these standards.

ANSI/ESD S20.20 and IEC 61340-5-1

These standards apply to all of the following activities:

  • Manufacturing
  • Processing
  • Assembly
  • Installation
  • Packaging
  • Labeling
  • Service
  • Testing
  • Inspection
  • Transport
  • Other activities that involve the handling electrical or electronic parts, assemblies and equipment susceptible to damage from ESD

They are based on three fundamental ESD control principles:

  1. Grounding control on conductors
  2. Control on non-conductors (i.e. process-required insulators)
  3. Transportation and storage of ESD items inside and outside of ESD protected areas (EPAs)

The ANSI/ESD S20.20 and IEC 61340-5-1 standards are based on the ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management Systems framework. Organizations can achieve ESD facility certification whether or not they are already certified to ISO 9001:2015.
