Turkey Mandates Standard for Children’s Drinking Equipment

Turkey has mandated TS EN 14350 / November 2020  for drinking equipment for young children. This standard will become effective on November 11, 2023.

On May 11, 2023, the Ministry of Industry and Technology of Turkey (Sanayi ve Teknoloji Bakanlığı) issued Communiqué No: SGM 2022/40 (Number 32187) to mandate the use of TS EN 14350 / November 2020 for compliance with the safety requirements and test methods for children’s drinking equipment (the Communiqué).

Products that are legally available on the European Union (EU) market are assumed to comply with the Communiqué. This Communiqué will become effective on November 11, 2023.

Highlights of TS EN 14350 / November 2020 are summarized in Table 1.

    • Specifies safety requirements relating to the materials, construction, performance, packaging and product information for drinking equipment intended for children 0-48 months of age:
      • Re-usable containers and re-usable drinking accessories
      • Single-use containers and drinking accessories sold with these containers
      • Single-use feeding teats
      • Ready to use feeding teats
  • Exemptions include, but are not limited to:
    • Drinking equipment made from ceramics
    • Drinking equipment supplied with fluids or food purchased with attached feeding accessories
    • Soothers (EN 1400)
    • Cutlery and other feeding utensils (EN 14372)
