Ukraine Bans One Substance in Food Contact Plastics

Ukraine has prohibited one substance for the manufacture of food contact plastics. The new law will become effective on January 21, 2023.

In October 2022, Ukraine’s Ministry of Health published Order No. 1735 of September 24, 2022 (Order No. 1735/2022) in the nation’s Official Gazette to prohibit one substance in the manufacture of plastic materials and articles intended to come into contact with food. The new law is consistent with Commission Decision 2010/169/EU of March 19, 2010, in the European Union (SafeGuardS 106/22 and references therein).

2,4,4’-trichloro-2’-hydroxydiphenyl ether (trivial name “Triclosan”) is an antimicrobial agent with potential endocrine disrupting properties.
