Organizations, like SGS, that issue credentials, or certify third parties against official standards, are checked and certified for their competency, authority and credibility, and known as Accredited Certification Bodies (ACB). Before receiving approval to issue credentials and certifications, ACBs are themselves formally vetted and approved by national Accreditation Bodies.
