SGS Advances Renewable Energy with First SEC-approved Solar Plant in Jubail

September 16, 2025

SGS has successfully completed a 168.48 kilowatt peak (kWp) rooftop photovoltaic solar project, fully aligned with Saudi Vision 2030. Approved by the Saudi Electricity Company (SEC), this initiative represents the first SEC-approved solar plant in Jubail Industrial City 1 and 2, marking a significant milestone in the Kingdom’s renewable energy transition.

SGS is a fundamentally non-polluting business with very low carbon emissions. However, we have committed to go even further, significantly reducing our emissions by 2030 and achieving net-zero emissions by 2050. Projects like this solar installation directly contribute to our roadmap by increasing the share of renewable energy used in our operations.

Through a 20-year lease agreement with Kanoo – CleanMax, SGS incurs zero upfront investment or operational and maintenance costs, while directly benefiting from clean, renewable energy.

Photovoltaics – powering change with impact

The plant is expected to generate approximately 277,899 kilowatt hours (kWh) of electricity in its first year of operation. This amount of electricity could correspond to an estimated reduction of 157 tons of CO₂ emissions annually.

By integrating solar power into operations, SGS demonstrates the tangible role industrial players can take in advancing the Kingdom’s energy diversification and sustainability goals.
