On 20 June 2023, SGS conducted an awareness session on the importance of Greenhouse Gas (GHG) and Water Efficient Management for members of the PHMA (Pakistan Hosiery Manufacturers & Exporters Association), Northern zone.
During the session Environment Services experts from SGS Pakistan Mr Ali Hashim and Ms Kanwal Shehzadi delivered a presentation on the importance of GHG accounting, reporting and verification.
They explained how independent external verification can help ensure transparency, what is the basic principle of accounting and reporting as per GHG Protocol and how this has become an important matter of concern to address the SDG Goal 13, which actually calls for urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts.
They also touched upon the other 16 Goals of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and in particular talked about Water Efficient Management, highlighting the best practices to be followed to save water and to operate in a more sustainable manner.
Further Mr Kashif, another environment expert from SGS Pakistan, briefed on how local compliance / regulation can be met while addressing concerns of the relevant Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) body.

This session was facilitated by Mr Mohammad Ayub, Secretary PHMA, and chaired by the President of M/s BaliTex Mr Aman Khan who is the executive member of the PHMA.
Other Members of the PHMA attended the session and highly appreciated the effort of SGS for delivering this useful session.
