After months of dedication, SGS Hong Kong presented China Mobile Hong Kong (CMHK) with one of the region’s first ISO 37001 certifications.
SGS Hong Kong was delighted to certify China Mobile Hong Kong (CMHK) to ISO 37001 – the first international anti-bribery management system (ABMS) standard. This was one of the first central Chinese, state-owned enterprises in the telecommunications industry to receive this certification.
Representatives from SGS, CMHK and Hong Kong’s Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC) attended a ceremony to mark the milestone.
Answering China’s call
During the event, Sean Lee, Director and CEO of CMHK, emphasized CMHK’s commitment to responding to China’s call to align with the ISO 37001 international standard.
He highlighted the incorporation of integrity, transparency and fairness into the company’s operational management, establishing a robust compliance management system. This initiative is a crucial step in implementing the national requirements for advancing governance systems and capabilities, as well as China Mobile Group’s requirements for constructing a comprehensive compliance management system for overseas operations.
ISO 37001 certification is also a major milestone in CMHK’s process to construct its overseas compliance management system and corporate governance framework.
Supporting Hong Kong and ICAC
Steve Du, Chief Operating Officer of SGS Northeast Asia, mentioned that promoting and implementing the internationally recognized anti-bribery standard will contribute to sustainably developing enterprises, fair competition and ethical business practices in Hong Kong.
Ricky Lai, Assistant Director of the Corruption Prevention Department of Hong Kong’s ICAC, called CMHK a pioneer in integrity and compliance for strictly implementing the Safeguarding Compliance Program to ensure these two factors in all management areas and business activities.
The ICAC provided CMHK with training and consultations to assist their ISO 37001 compliance. Mr Lai added that the certification is a well-deserved recognition of the company’s efforts and affirms the ICAC’s work.
The ICAC looks forward to deepening cooperation with CMHK and contributing to constructing a clean and ethical business environment, thereby jointly building a corruption-free Silk Road.
Shi Xiaoping, Director and Chief Compliance Officer of CMHK, stated that ISO 37001 certification provides her company with an opportunity to collaborate with the ICAC and SGS to promote effective regulation in the information and communications industry, while creating an essential defense against corruption and fraud.
