The Specialty Hospital was one of the first in the region to meet the requirements of ISO 9001 for Quality Management, ISO 14001 for Environmental Management, ISO 45001 for Occupational Health and Safety Management, and ISO 22000 for Food Safety Management.
About the Specialty Hospital
The Specialty Hospital established in 1993 is an internationally accredited private teaching hospital, located in Amman, Jordan.
The hospital has a capacity of 265 beds, with around 1000 qualified professionals and 750 consultants. The Specialty Hospital is well known in the region as a medical tourism destination, and during the past 29 years the hospital served more than 6 million patients from 150 nationalities.

Quality and Food safety as starting points for cooperation with SGS
Quality Management has been of utmost importance for the Specialty Hospital as quality of care is placed at the core of their practices. This is how cooperation with SGS began – in 2010, SGS conducted the first certification audit of the hospital and issued ISO 9001 certificate of conformity, renewed since then on a regular basis.
In parallel, the Specialty Hospital started to implement food safety management practices, with HACPP certification by SGS. Food safety is important to ensure for a hospital, since they prepare and serve food for patients, accompanies and employees.
Later on, they decided to upgrade their food safety management system to a more comprehensive ISO 22000 standard, and SGS has been keen on sharing expertise via ISO 22000 certification and surveillance audits.
New benchmarks: Health, Safety and Environment
In 2015, The Specialty Hospital adopted OHSAS 18001, the occupational health and safety specification, which has been later replaced by ISO 45001:2018.
The ISO 14001:2015 has been also integrated to the hospital’s management system in 2021.
Application of those international standards enabled the hospital to reduce environmental risks and provide a healthy and safe environment for employees and other stakeholders.
