In a significant development, Oman has expanded its Energy Efficiency Rating (EER) scheme to include refrigerators, washing machines, and water heaters. This step aims to regulate and reduce energy consumption in these household appliances, contributing to the nation's economic preservation efforts.
The EER label is a prerequisite for obtaining a Certificate of Conformity (CoC), emphasizing the government's dedication to mitigate the environmental footprint of various appliances. It’s goal is to progress towards a more energy efficient country.
SGS Gulf Limited was recognized as one of the first Notified Bodies appointed by the Oman Directorate General of Standards and Metrology (DGSM), which is part of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MOCI). We have been evaluating air conditioners and with this new directory, we are adding more appliances for review.
From 8 December 2023, refrigerators, washing machines, and electrical storage water heaters will undergo the conformity assessment process.
Under the updated regulations, it is compulsory for all manufacturers, and importers to obtain an EER certification and label for their products before importing them into the country.
The EER label not only benefits the environment but also enhances the reputation of businesses dedicated to sustainable and energy-efficient practices. Manufacturers and importers are urged to collaborate with designated bodies like SGS Gulf Limited to ensure a seamless transition into compliance with the updated regulations.
