£1.9 Million Investment Expands Oral Liquid Development and Manufacturing Capabilities

September 11, 2026

We have invested approximately £1.9 million to expand the pharmaceutical development and manufacturing capabilities of our CDMO facility in Deeside, strengthening support for innovators developing oral liquid medicines. The upgrade includes advanced liquid manufacturing equipment, enhanced filling capabilities and supporting infrastructure designed to provide greater flexibility, scalability and efficiency for our customers.

Investing in future growth

The expansion represents a significant investment in oral liquid manufacturing at the Deeside site. New assets include a new 2000 L manufacturing vessel, with additional 150 L and 500 L vessels as part of the site's ongoing expansion program. Together with a dedicated bottle filling and capping line and a new purified water generation and distribution system, these enhancements strengthen our ability to support products from development through to commercial manufacture.

Supporting advanced manufacturing technologies

Oral liquid products often require specialist manufacturing processes capable of handling a wide range of formulations and batch sizes. Our expanded infrastructure supports solutions, suspensions and specialist products while providing enhanced processing technologies, including low- and high-shear mixing. Integrated manufacturing and filling operations help simplify technology transfer and scale-up activities, providing a clearer path to commercial production.

Strengthening capacity for future customer needs

As pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies face increasing pressure to accelerate timelines while maintaining quality and compliance, access to adaptable manufacturing solutions is more important than ever. This investment demonstrates our continued focus on growing our CDMO offering, strengthening the infrastructure, technologies and expertise available to our customers. By expanding manufacturing capacity and technical resources, we are better positioned to support evolving program requirements and help customers progress products towards commercial manufacture.

Jamie Farrar, Head of Pharmaceutical Development and Technical Operations at SGS CDMO Solutions, commented: "The £1.9 million investment in our Deeside facility is an important step in strengthening our development and manufacturing capabilities for oral liquid medicines. The expanded infrastructure, advanced equipment and new processing technologies allows us to support increasingly complex formulation programs while providing customers with a scalable route to commercial production. This investment reflects our confidence in the future of the sector and our commitment to building capabilities that enable innovation and help bring new treatments to patients faster".
