Taking place on 10–11 June 2026 at Diddly Squat Farm, Chipping Norton, Cereals is one of the UK’s leading arable events, bringing together farmers, agronomists, land managers, advisors and industry suppliers to explore the latest developments in agriculture, land management and sustainability. The 2026 event is expected to welcome more than 25,000 visitors, 650 exhibitors and 100 speakers.
SGS will be attending to introduce visitors to its innovative environmental DNA (eDNA) services, which use DNA found in soil, water, air and other environmental samples to unlock valuable biodiversity data. The technology can support species detection, habitat assessment, sustainability monitoring and agricultural decision-making.
For the agricultural sector, SGS eDNA services include CropScan, which helps monitor pollination species in crops to inform planting practices and support improved crop yields. Soil sampling analysis can also help identify the make-up of a soil biome, providing insight that may support improved crop growth and land management.
Visitors to Cereals will be able to learn how eDNA can support a wide range of practical applications, from biodiversity baseline assessments and habitat monitoring to invasive species detection, pollinator monitoring and soil health insight.
SGS offers a range of service packages, including QuickScan, FullScan, BioScan, InsectScan, CropScan and Invasive Species Scan, depending on the project requirements.
Unlike traditional biodiversity assessment methods, which can rely on visual identification, trapping or estimation, eDNA sampling provides a non-invasive, highly sensitive and time-efficient way to generate data-backed species analysis.
Steve Allen, Business Development Manager, said: “Cereals 2026 is the ideal platform for us to speak directly with the agricultural community about the role eDNA can play in understanding and improving biodiversity. From pollinator monitoring and crop insight to soil biome analysis and invasive species detection, eDNA offers a powerful way to generate meaningful environmental data that can support better decisions on the ground.”
