Our laboratory in Leicester provides assurance that textile, footwear and leather products are compliant. Located within the Whittle Estate, it is now the only independent, global textile testing laboratory based in the UK’s Midlands region. Our clients are not restricted to the UK. They come from across the world to benefit from the laboratory’s unique capabilities. The lab conducts all of the usual tests for shrinkage, color fastness, abrasion and pilling, as well as for seam properties and fabric strength. Part of the laboratory’s appeal to is its specialization in niche areas, including thermal insulation testing (tog value), nightwear and textile flammability.
Furthermore, the chemistry laboratory carries out fiber identification and analysis of materials for fiber composition and formaldehyde content. Specialists in the laboratory dissect knitted and woven fabrics to determine how they were made and analyze the yarns from which they were constructed, for example, by manually de-knitting socks and tights to withdraw yarns for further testing.
The laboratory boasts a dedicated customer service team that handles applications and queries quickly and personally, resulting in satisfied repeat customers.
If the team receives a testing request that it cannot carry out, it can call upon other laboratories in our global network to assist.
Our laboratory in Leicester is accredited to ISO/IEC 17025 by the United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS) and has recently undertaken its annual review, receiving positive remarks from the auditors in the process.
