SGS Appointed as the Oman DGSM Notified Body for Low Voltage Equipment

April 27, 2023

The DGSM (Directorate General for Standards and Metrology of the Ministry of Commerce, Industry & Investment Promotion of the Sultanate of Oman), appoints SGS Gulf Limited as the approved notified body for LVE (Low Voltage Electrical Equipment).

All products in the below categories are mandated to obtain a Type Approval Certificate of Conformity for importation into Oman:

  • Vacuum Cleaners
  • Washing Machine (Capacity range 11-25 kg)
  • Dishwashers

Manufacturers are required to apply for the Omani Type Examination certificate from a Notified Body. These products must undergo safety and EMC tests, and the manufacturer has to prepare product design and risk analysis documentation. Conformity certificates are valid for 1 year and subject to annual renewal.

This new certification scope is to complement the SGS active accreditations for electrical & electronic consumer products to be marketed in Oman:

  • SGS Gulf Limited has been the approved Certification Body for certification of Energy Efficiency rating for Oman DGSM scheme for air conditioners.
  • SGS Gulf Limited has been the Notified Body under GSO for G Mark Certification of LVE which covers categories like air-conditioners, microwave ovens, washing machines, electric water heaters, electric fans, electric iron, hair straighteners & curlers etc.

We are happy to extend our trade facilitation capabilities by certifying Low Voltage Equipment (LVE) under the Oman DGSM scheme. This will allow Oman consumers to receive safe and compliant electrical appliances.
