On March 25, 2026, SGS successfully hosted a stakeholder workshop in Mombasa aimed at providing clarity and guidance on the newly introduced Pre-Export Verification of Conformity (PVoC) requirements and zones of operation established by the Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS) on February 19, 2026. The session also served as a platform to address emerging questions and operational challenges faced by clients.
This Mombasa workshop marked the second engagement in a series, following a similar session held in Nairobi on March 5, reinforcing SGS’s commitment to supporting clients through regulatory transitions.

SGS Perspective: Operational Updates and Responsibilities
The workshop featured insightful presentations from both SGS and KEBS representatives.
The event opened with remarks from Mwaniki Samuel, SGS, setting ground rules of essence of the workshop with overview of expected outcomes of the workshop.
Ferideh Killi from SGS led a comprehensive session covering key operational updates, including new inspection procedures, defined zones of coverage, inspection routes for faster turnaround times and a clear outline of the SGS mandate. She also highlighted the respective roles and responsibilities of importers and KEBS, ensuring alignment and transparency across all stakeholders.
KEBS Insights: Regulatory Requirements and Compliance
Representing KEBS, Benson Bundi delivered an overview of the updated PVoC requirements. His presentation focused on critical areas such as destination inspection protocols and the importance of proper certification, including the certificate of origin. His insights provided valuable regulatory context and helped participants better understand compliance expectations.
Strong Participation and Positive Outcomes
The event saw an impressive turnout, with over 100 delegates in attendance. The strong participation reflected the high level of interest and the importance of the new regulatory framework to businesses operating within the region.
These workshops aim to provide clarity, consistency and support every step of the way as the new PVoC requirements take effect.

Overall, the workshop was a great success, fostering open dialogue, enhancing understanding and strengthening collaboration between SGS, KEBS and the Kenyan importers. SGS remains committed to supporting stakeholders through ongoing engagement and expert guidance as the new PVoC requirements are implemented.
