We are a strategic partner for BlueChem, the first incubator for sustainable chemistry in Belgium. SGS will provide specialist health, safety and environment advice and support to the start-ups and scale-ups in BlueChem. This will allow the companies in BlueChem to apply the safest and most efficient working methods and laboratory techniques, fully in line with legal standards and regulations.
We have signed a collaborative agreement with chemistry incubator BlueChem, with the shared ambition of improving safety, reducing possible risks and helping start-ups to apply increasingly complex regulations correctly.
This allows BlueChem to offer a versatile, customised service. Young businesses in the chemistry incubator sector can count on specialised services in the areas of financing, innovation, legal advice, data analytics and business development. The new partnership with SGS Belgium now adds an important safety aspect to this, ensuring innovation, sustainability and safety go hand in hand at BlueChem.
Johan Pype, Managing Director SGS Benelux. ‘At SGS, we believe that sustainability is an important factor for society, and businesses that prioritise sustainability also perform better. We see BlueChem as a very promising strategic partner that shares our ambitions in terms of sustainable chemistry. We are delighted that BlueChem is developing in Antwerp, where the port and the substantial chemicals sector have been very important and influential for SGS both nationally and internationally for many years, and are very much looking forward to this collaboration in the core activities which are also essential for us.’
Marc Van Ryckeghem, Business Manager Environment, Health & Safety (EHS) SGS Benelux. ‘The entrepreneurship and continuous innovation at SGS, with its range of laboratory, measurement and research services, ensures it is a well-established and valued EHS service provider with a strong focus on expertise and customer orientation. SGS provides services on sustainability and compliance with environmental and safety laws and regulations on one hand, and various other services focussing on soil quality and waste and residual flows on the other – all services which align seamlessly with BlueChem’s objectives and make this collaboration so advantageous.’
Frank Beckx, Chairman at BlueChem and Managing Director at essenscia vlaanderen, the sector federation for the chemicals and life sciences industry. ‘With this partnership, we’re reinforcing our extensive service package with which we provide optimal support for the new businesses and start-ups in BlueChem. Prioritised focus on maximum safety and minimum impact on the environment is a typical characteristic of the chemicals sector. In collaboration with SGS Belgium, we are now extending this safety culture with strict procedures and respect for the rules to BlueChem, allowing experimentation and innovation to take place in the safest possible conditions in this chemistry incubator.’
