SGS Renews Jet Fuel Laboratory Agreement with EAFS at Hong Kong International Airport

August 27, 2026

We are proud to announce the renewal of our agreement with ECO Aviation Fuel Services Limited (EAFS) for the management and operation of an on-site jet fuel testing laboratory supporting Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA). The new long-term agreement extends a successful relationship established in 2015 and reinforces our shared commitment to aviation fuel quality, safety and reliability.

Supporting jet fuel quality at Hong Kong International Airport

EAFS operates and manages the Permanent Aviation Fuel Facility (PAFF), which receives, stores and transfers the jet fuel used at HKIA. The storage terminal and our on-site laboratory are located opposite the airport, with fuel transported directly to HKIA through dedicated pipelines.

Operating 24 hours a day, seven days a week, our laboratory provides inspection, sampling, testing and quality control services for the jet fuel handled by the facility. The agreement renewal reflects the strength of our relationship with EAFS, as well as the consistent performance, technical expertise and dedication of our team.

During a meeting with us in July 2026, Sylvia Har, General Manager of EAFS, said: “This achievement is the result of the excellent cooperation between EAFS and SGS.”

SGS remains committed to delivering excellent on-site laboratory services, and we thank the EAFS team for renewing this contract.

Reliable 24/7 aviation fuel inspection and testing

Accredited to ISO/IEC 17025, our on-site laboratory has demonstrated its technical competence and ability to deliver reliable and consistent testing results.

Through continuous laboratory operations, our oil, gas and chemicals team supports the inspection, sampling, analysis and quality control of jet fuel before it is transferred to the airport. The team’s responsiveness, technical expertise and commitment to customer service help EAFS maintain confidence in fuel quality throughout its storage and distribution operations.

The renewed agreement also recognizes the dedication of our team in Hong Kong, whose reliable service has supported EAFS’s operations for more than a decade.

In 2025, the Hong Kong PAFF PIPE/ECO operation received a JIG Global Recognition Award for its continued, sustainable and outstanding performance. This achievement, which requires more than three years’ evidence, further demonstrates the strong operational and quality culture supporting the aviation fuel supply chain at HKIA.

Supporting compliance with global aviation fuel standards

The aviation fuel supply chain, from production and storage through transportation and loading onto aircraft, is subject to stringent global requirements for every batch produced and delivered. Effective quality assurance across this supply chain is essential for protecting fuel integrity and supporting safe aviation operations.

The activities performed by our on-site laboratory align with internationally recognized aviation fuel standards and industry requirements, including:

  • Def Stan 91-091, Issue 18, issued by the UK Ministry of Defence
  • EI/JIG Standard 1530, Quality Assurance Requirements for the Manufacture, Storage and Distribution of Aviation Fuels to Airports
  • ASTM D4045, Standard Practice for Evaluation of New Aviation Turbine Fuels and Fuel Additives
  • ASTM D1655-23a, Standard Specification for Aviation Turbine Fuels
  • ASTM D7566-21, Standard Specification for Aviation Turbine Fuel Containing Synthesized Hydrocarbons
  • EI 1533 Supplement, covering quality assurance requirements for semi-synthetic jet fuel and synthetic blending components

By combining internationally recognized standards, experienced personnel and round-the-clock on-site laboratory capabilities, we help EAFS maintain effective quality control throughout the aviation fuel supply chain.
