Foreign food manufacturers (referred to as suppliers by the FDA) have certain regulatory requirements they must meet for their shipments to the USA to be compliant.

Two primary importer programs identified by the US FDA as the Foreign Supplier Verification Program under 21 CFR Part 1 Subpart M and the Voluntary Qualified Importer Program under 21 CFR Part 1 Subpart L provide requirements foreign suppliers must meet. SGS maintains certification programs under each of these US FDA programs where foreign suppliers can have their manufacturing processes assessed by SGS Qualified Auditors for compliance with the established requirements.

Curtis Hayes -  FSMA Technical Manager, SGS
Curtis serves as the FSMA Technical Manager (2019). Prior roles include independent contract food safety auditor and as a Food Safety Warrant Officer in the US Army for twenty-five years where he completed various assignments in public health, process auditing, food inspection, and assessment in accordance with Department of Defense and US Federal Regulations and Standards. Curtis has been trained and certified in BRC, ISO 22000, ISO 9001, SQF, GMA-SAFE, PCQI, Food Protection, HACCP, Seafood HACCP, Better Process Control, Food Defense, and other food safety practices. He holds a Master of Public Health (MPH) from West Virginia University and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Food Science from University of Tennessee - Knoxville.
