We achieved the “A+” standard under the Global Reporting Initiative’s “G3” Guidelines for our 2012 Report. Following the introduction of the “G4” Guidelines in 2013, our aim was to achieve alignment to the “Comprehensive” option for our 2013 Report. Reaching this level has been a learning process for us. “G4” requires more in-depth and targeted reporting, focused on the most material issues to the company. Accordingly, our review of our materiality assessment processes led to new topics, such as water management, being identified as of increasing importance to SGS, although not yet exceeding the threshold of materiality. Aligning with “G4-Comprehensive” has also required us to review our data management processes, and prepare to report on new sets of indicators in the coming years. Most importantly, it has helped us identify and make commitments to close current gaps in our management approach, such as our commitment to review our supplier assessment processes in 2014. Our reporting approach will continue to evolve in accordance with the Guidelines, and we hope that our new indicators and targeted commitments, plus the feedback we will receive from stakeholders on the 2013 Report, will enable us to produce an even more in-depth report in 2014.

If you are from an organization interested in aligning with “G4” and would like to find out more about our experiences of the process, please contact the Corporate Sustainability team.
