Add Value with Lëss
Successful businesses look to reduce waste and optimize process efficiencies across their operations. Addressing behavior in the workplace is an important aspect of process efficiency and can also lead to improved well-being for employees.
Since 2013, SGS has deployed a company-wide behavior-based campaign to encourage employees to consider the environment as part of their daily work routine. The ”Spot the Orange Dot” campaign, along with its mascot, Lëss the polar bear, proved extremely popular across the SGS network, raising awareness among employees of the importance of saving energy and water and reducing waste in the workplace. The original campaign ran in 448 sites across 23 countries.
Building on the success of Spot the Orange Dot, SGS has created a new global initiative for 2020, “Add Value with Lëss”. Lëss the polar bear returns as the mascot – but with a contemporary look. This initiative is structured around four “paws”’:
- Reduce Footprint (in relation to the environment)
- Optimize Processes
- Benefit People
- Enhance Quality
The Add Value with Lëss initiative builds on two aspects: firstly, to raise awareness among employees on how they can be more efficient, and secondly, to obtain suggestions from employees on measures to increase efficiency and add value that could be implemented at SGS around the four paws theme. This initiative aims to encourage each affiliate to award and implement the best suggestions, which will lead to actual waste reduction.
This exciting program, which is sponsored by our CEO Frankie Ng, seeks to transform the culture and the mindset of all our employees. In 2019, the program was already rolled out in 192 locations across 16 countries, involving 2,449 employees. It generated close to 500 suggestions. Some affiliates, including SGS Turkey, SGS Germany and SGS Peru, have already awarded suggestions and even begun planning their implementation.
