SGS Services: SGS Awards First Agribusiness with Alliance for Water Stewardship Certificate
In September 2016, SGS issued its first Alliance for Water Stewardship (AWS) certification to Olam International, a leading global agribusiness.
The AWS standard is aimed at achieving four water stewardship outcomes: good water governance; sustainable water balance; good water quality; and the healthy status of important water-related areas. Olam International became the first agribusiness to receive the certificate after the successful completion of an assessment led by SGS South Africa, which included a site visit to the Aviv Tanzania Arabica Coffee Farm in the Ruvuma River Basin. In meeting the requirements for certification, Olam is helping to build collaborative partnerships and tackle the challenges needed to ensure water security for the 300,000 people living in the surrounding area.
