SGS Angola Supports Graduate Entry to Employment
While Angola has a large labor force, the country suffers from a shortage of skilled workers across key industry sectors, including science and technology, agribusiness, chemical, tourism, logistics and transportation.
Although progress has been made in primary education in recent years, education standards at secondary and tertiary levels lag behind average levels in Sub-Saharan Africa. This has resulted in a gap between the quality of the workforce produced by the education system and the skill levels required by employers.
SGS Angola is keen to support graduates entering the labor market by equipping them with the confidence to apply for jobs successfully. In 2019, SGS Angola organized two workshops for aspiring professionals with the Angola Institut Superior (ISA) in Cacuaco and the Igreja Evangélica Baptista em Angola (IEBA) Church. The first workshop involved 20 undergraduates in their third year of a human resources degree and focused on performance evaluation. The second workshop, attended by around 50 graduates with a broad range of degrees, focused on successful job interview techniques.
Feedback from the workshops was positive and we are pleased to learn that a number of participants went on to become successfully employed. Based on the positive outcome of the workshops, we plan to organize additional events in 2020.
