Vehicle emissions from our global fleet account for 55% of SGS’s greenhouse gas emissions (GHG). As part of our sustainable mobility strategy, SGS North America (SGS NAM) Procurement is working collaboratively with key internal and external partners to position our organization to succeed in a low carbon future.

We have undertaken a key initiative that will help SGS Group to lower vehicle emissions in North America by 5% and will reduce the environmental, social, and economic impacts associated with our vehicle fleet.

To continuously streamline the total cost of ownership and sustainability of our vehicle fleet, SGS NAM Procurement has partnered with LeasePlan. In addition to providing us with vehicles, the company is helping us to identify vehicles with the lowest cost of ownership and lower emissions output based on comprehensive life-cycle cost modeling, which factors in optimization of purchase price, resale value, maintenance and repair costs, fuel usage, etc. We have executed this strategy in close collaboration with all of our business lines to ensure alignment with, and delivery on our business goals without compromising the needs of our clients.

We estimate that this sustainable mobility strategy will deliver a minimum cost savings of USD 2 million and a CO2 reduction of 2,600 tonnes over five years, starting in 2020. Most of the vehicle renewals are expected to occur in 2020 when, therefore, the largest GHG reductions will take place.
