Employees of SGS USA understand the power of social pressure in driving behavior and launched our Spot the Orange Dot campaign across five sites in 2017. Employees at these sites are holding one another accountable for their environmental behavior in the workplace.

Spot the Orange Dot campaign

For example, Rachel, an employee at our Denver Minerals site, took it upon herself to audit the number of lights and monitors that were left on at night. During the course of a week, she audited each department’s performance, and then hosted a surprise “milkshake field trip”’ for the department with the best rating. Meanwhile, an employee at our Wheatridge environmental laboratory drew a cartoon of our campaign mascot, Lëss the polar bear, with a caption saying, “Les is sad because Michael [an employee] forgot to recycle.”

SGS USA is encouraged to see employees embracing the spirit of the campaign. Employees are expected to extend their improved awareness and behavior from the workplace to their homes, so that energy efficiency and waste minimization become an everyday part of life. The success of the campaign will be measured not only by environmental improvements in the workplace, but also by feedback from employees on how it has influenced their behavior outside of work.

The campaign will be rolled out to more sites across the US and Canada in 2018.
