It takes an entrepreneur like Anshu Gupta to find a means of turning waste products into items that give women back their dignity.

Through his enterprising leadership, Anshu Gupta founded Goonj, a pan Indian non-governmental organization turns waste cloth into hygienic sanitary pads for use by women living in hardship in rural parts of India.

SGS India supports Goonj by donating textile waste samples from our two laboratories in the north and south of Delhi. Unlike most waste samples from the textile industry, our laboratory samples are well suited for use as hygiene products. During 2015, we donated around 250 kilograms of cloth samples which were transformed into sanitary products.

SGS extends its congratulations to Anshu Gupta who received the 2015 Ramon Magsaysay Award for “his creative vision in transforming the culture of giving in India, his enterprising leadership in treating cloth as a sustainable development resource for the poor, and in reminding the world that true giving always respects and preserves human dignity”.
