China issued a new national standard GB/T 39498-2020 Guidelines for the use and control of key chemical substances in consumer products. The new standard became effective on June 1, 2021

The Standardization Administration of China issued its national standard GB/T 39498-2020 Guidelines for the use and control of key chemical substances in consumer products which became effective on June 1, 2021. This is a new national standard and is included in China’s No. 26 announcement on newly approved national standards in 2020. 

Scope

This standard is applicable for use and control of key chemical substances in consumer products.

General Principle 

The content of key chemical substances in consumer products is closely related to the protection of consumer health and safety, as well as social management. 

It is crucial to control the safety risk level of key chemical substances in consumer products within the tolerable risk range.

For the consumer products not mentioned in this standard, refer to the limit of chemical substances of similar products given in this standard.

  • Organotin compounds
  • Formaldehyde
  • Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs)
  • Bisphenol A
  • Halogenated solvents
  • Aniline
  • Alkylphenols & Alkylphenol Ethoxylates (APs & APEOs)
  • Perfluorinated and Polyfluorinated Chemicals (PFCs)
  • Asbestos
  • Chlorinated Paraffins
  • Phthalates
  • Flame retardants
  • Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs)
  • Dimethylfumarate (DMFu)
  • N-nitrosamine
