EU Revises CLP Regulation on Substances and Mixtures

The EU has published an ATP (adaptation to technical and sientific progress) to amend Annex VI to the CLP (Classification, Labelling and Packaging of Substances and Mixtures) Regulation. This revision will apply from March 1, 2022.

On August 11, 2020, the European Union published Regulation (EU) 2020/1182 to amend Regulation (EC) 1272/2008 on Classification, Labeling and Packaging of Substances and Mixtures (CLP Regulation, see consolidated version to May 1, 2020 for further details).

This amendment is an adaptation to technical and scientific progress (ATP) to the CLP Regulation and contains changes to the list of chemicals falling under Annex VI to the CLP Regulation. The latest revision contains important changes to Table 3 of Part 3 under Annex VI ‘List of Harmonized Classification and Labeling of Hazardous Substances’:

  • Adding 37 new entries, including:
    • Dibenzo[def,p]chrysene (dibenzo[a,l]pyrene, CAS 191-30-0) - a carcinogenic 1B and mutagenic 2 polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon (PAH)
    • Diisooctyl phthalate (DIOP, CAS 27554-26-3) – a reprotoxic 1B phthalate
    • Geraniol (CAS 106-24-1) – a skin sensitizer 1 substance
  • Amending 21 entries
  • Deleting 2 entries – branched hexatriacontane (Index No. 601-064-00-8) and hexyl 2-(1-(diethylaminohydroxyphenyl)methanoyl)benzoate (Index No. 607-693-00-4)

The latest amendment will become effective on March 1, 2022 – substances and mixtures may be labeled and packaged in accordance with this amendment before this date.
