China Updated Product Standard QB/T 1615-2018

China implemented its updated product standard for leather garment on July 1st, 2019.

The Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology announced the launch of an updated industry standard, QB/T 1615-2018 <Leather garment>, which has been officially implemented since July 1st, 2019. The previous edition was abolished.

Application Scope

The standard applies to the garment that are primarily made of leather materials. It is not applicable to leather garment intended to be used by infants at the age of not older than 36 months.

Main Technical Changes

QB/T 1615-2018 contains several revisions compared with QB/T 1615-2006. These revisions include:

  • Changes in four items, including the scope, the requirements for size and specification, the rules of quality grade classification, and the assessment of lot;
  • Additions of four items, including the requirements for leather raw materials, the requirements of physical and chemical properties for leather accessories and attachments, the requirements for textile, fur collar and fur accessories in test methods, and the requirements of physical and chemical properties and test methods for leather, textile and fur in Annex B;
  • Revisions on three items, including the wording of materials to be used, sample size in routine inspection, and the requirement for grading superior sample in single sample assessment.

In addition, the labelling of leather materials has been refined in this updated edition.

Test Items for Physical and Chemical Properties

QB/T 1615-2018 specifies the requirements for leather, textiles and fur.

The requirements of physical and chemical properties for leather include tear force, colourfastness to rubbing, odour, pH value and dilution ratio (when pH is less than 4.0), formaldehyde and decomposable carcinogenic aromatic amines.

The requirements of physical and chemical properties for textiles include fibre content, colourfastness to rubbing, odour, pH value, formaldehyde and decomposable carcinogenic aromatic amines.

The requirements of physical and chemical properties for fur include colourfastness to rubbing, odour, pH value and dilution ratio (when pH is less than 4.0), formaldehyde and decomposable carcinogenic aromatic amines, colourfastness to perspiration for fur collar, and colourfastness to light for fur collar.
