China Releases New Standard for Waterproof and Water-Vapour Permeable Garments – FZ/T 81023-2019

The Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology has released the new Industry Standard for waterproof and water-vapour permeable garments, FZ/T 81023-2019, which will be officially implemented on November 1, 2019.

Definition for Waterproof and Water-vapour Permeable Garments

Garments made of woven fabrics that have waterproof and water-vapour permeable properties.

Application Scope

This standard is applicable to waterproof and water-vapour permeable garments. It does not apply to the clothing for children aged 36 months or younger.

Test Items of Physical and Chemical Performance

Test items include fibre content, formaldehyde, pH value, odour, decomposable carcinogenic aromatic amines, perfluorooctane sulfonates(PFOS) and perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA), dimensional change after laundering, colourfastness of shell fabric (colourfastness to washing with soap or soap and soda, colourfastness to water, colourfastness to perspiration, colourfastness to rubbing, colourfastness to light, colourfastness to transfer in joints), colourfastness of lining (colourfastness to washing with soap or soap and soda, colourfastness to water, colourfastness to perspiration, colourfastness to rubbing), seam property (seam strength of trousers back rise, seam slippage), tear strength, appearance quality after laundering, abrasion resistance, and functional items (spray rating, hydrostatic pressure rating and water-vapour transmission rate). In addition, if the waterproof and water-vapour permeable garments are for children’s use, the provisions of GB 31701 must also be complied with.
