SAFEGUARDS | Consumer Products NO. 092/19
These will be implemented in phases starting August 2, 2019 for FPPE.
On June 3, 2019, the governor of the US state of Colorado signed the HB19-1279 bill into law to regulate perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS chemicals).
The new law contains several important provisions, including:
- Prohibiting Class B firefighting foams with intentionally added PFAS chemicals and their use for training purposes
- Requiring manufacturers or sellers of firefighting personal protective equipment to disclose whether these products contain intentionally added PFAS chemicals and the reason for these added chemicals
- Expanding the power of the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) by allowing the CDPHE to request certificates of compliance (CoCs) from manufacturers of Class B firefighting foam or FPPE
Highlights on the use of PFAS chemicals in Class B firefighting foams and FPPE are summarized in Table 1.
