Manufacturers or importers of household goods subject to safety standards must comply to the specifications in accordance with the Enforcement Rules for Electric Appliances and Household Goods Safety Management Act and their respective annexes. According to the KATS Notification No. 2018-195, there are 23 annexes updated, which are subject to the safety standard, including the following:
- Annex 1 – Household Textile Products
- Annex 2 - Carpet
- Annex 3 – Leather Goods
- Annex 10 – Shoes for the elderly
- Annex 16 – Reflective Safety Vest
- Annex 22 – Contact Metal Ornaments
Household goods that fall in to the list are required to comply with the safety standards, but safety certification / safety confirmation / supplier conformity report shall be exempted when products subject to safety certification / safety confirmation / supplier conformity are imported through parallel import (product produced or distributed by an overseas trademark owner for sale purpose).
In addition to the requirements specified in the respective annexes of the safety standards for household goods, labelling shall be in Korean, except for displaying the manufacturer’s name and model name in English if it is difficult to display in Korean.
The enforcement of KATS Notification No. 2018-195 was on July 1, 2018.
