SAFEGUARDS | Hardlines NO. 158/18
Hong Kong(China)’s Toys and Children’s Safety Ordinance (Cap. 424 ) (the Ordinance) stipulates that toys and children’s products are obliged to comply with all the applicable requirements in any one of the safety standards specified in Schedules 1 and 2 of the Ordinance.
On December 1, 2018 , Hong Kong China launched a one-month consultation on its proposal to adopt up-to-date safety standards for toys, and five categories of Schedule 2 products. This stems from updates to international standards so that these up-to-date standards are applied to products supplied in Hong Kong China. The five categories of Schedule 2 products are:
- Children’s safety barriers for domestic use
- Children’s cots for domestic use
- Children’s high chairs and multi-purpose high chairs for domestic use
- Children’s paints
- Playpens for domestic use
Comments for the proposal are accepted until December 31, 2018
Highlights of the proposal are summarized in Table 1.
